Now, every week, My Sherpa chooses a word to highlight, because it’s “trendy”. Because there needs to be an explanation, and, above all, because it echoes our values and principles.

Today, focus on 

« Transmission ».

The term transmission refers to the idea of ​​passage, of communication, allowing or opening to new possibilities, whether they are perceived as positive or on the contrary negative.

What is transmitted is endowed with a value, and cannot be discussed, for it is established by the force of a tradition (religious dogma), or of proof (eg knowledge).

The transmission is supposed to bring out of childhood (initiation rites), ignorance, it acculturates, produces a civilizing effect, social and professional integration. It has a powerful intergenerational effect, as it saves the time of trial and error, and provides the behavioral and intellectual achievements recognized by a group existing at a given time.

This transmission is ensured by institutions, especially educational ones: the family, on an individual basis; school, in a more collective way. But also churches, businesses, unions, associations …
