8,900 euros on average per year, this is the health expenditure of insured persons benefiting from an ALD (Long-term illness). That is almost seven times more than for the rest of the patients.
In 2017, the health expenditure of insured persons benefiting from the ALD system amounted to 8,900 euros on average, almost seven times more than for the rest of the population. These policyholders, who represent 18% of patients, account for nearly 60% of health expenses presented for reimbursement.
The ALD system allows a horizontal redistribution towards the sickest: more than 90% of the expenditure of insured persons in ALD is covered by the Compulsory Health Insurance (AMO), against 67% for the rest of the insured.
